Hammers vs. Saws
approx. 5 x 13’, hand-stitched cotton and found textiles, 2006

artist statement
With a nod to the illustrative style of Watty Piper's iconic The Little Engine That Could, Hammers vs. Saws is an idealized version of the battle of the sexes. Witnessed and encouraged by their animal friends, young men plan and build traps for their female counterparts. Some girls are captured, some heroines free others, some escape, but none without consequences.
