TOWARD 2050
April 2024
TOWARD 2050 is a Public Engagement Artwork reaching across all American states, territories, and beyond. It is organized by Arizona-based artist Ann Morton and was installed at Phoenix’s Desert Botanical Garden in 2025.
Facilitated in Red Lodge by Maggy Rozycki Hiltner, participants committed to completing 25 double-sided textile panel flags to Ann’s specifications reflecting on what we love most about our earth’s environment: flora, fauna, the forests, our oceans, the air, our skies, our water. Some used words or poetry, some were illustrative, and some abstract in their creations. We gathered at the Red Lodge Carnegie Library on Earth Day for the workshop, and all ages of the public were welcome. Participants also spent time addressing postcards to our Senators and Representatives about the issues of TOWARD 2050. The finished flags were mailed to Ann Morton to become part of her labyrinth, and after the exhibition they will be made into blankets to be distributed to people in need during the next climate-related catastrophe.
